The Art of Yoni Sunning

“The sun has been my faithful lover

For millions of years.

Whenever I offer my body to him

Brilliant light pours from his heart.


Yoni is a sacred sanskrit word that translates to “source of all life” or “sacred space” referring to a woman’s holy grail, or vagina, between her legs.

Your yoni is your opening into the infinite intelligence and center of creation. Your yoni is a place to be honored and cherished, a place of clarity and wisdom. When we get out of balance with life, your yoni is the first to let us know with symptoms of imbalance and disease. 

Your Yoni Never Lies.

This means that if you are experiencing any vaginal, reproductive, sexual or fertility related symptoms, there is a message here for you to understand (and usually shift) something in your life.

It’s necessary to create space daily to connect with your yoni, even one breath dedicated to her. This will naturally increase your connection and ability to hear, and respond to, her needs. 

One of my favorite ways to connect intimately with my yoni is with the practice of yoni sunning. This is an ancient technique for awakening dormant energies while shining light into the darkness.

Ancient Taoists called this “sunning,” where you simply open your legs and invite your yoni to drink in the sunshine. This opening of your temple windows and honoring of the Goddess aspects within you, increases your health, abundance, sensuality and fertility.

By exposing the darkest, or most yin, part of your body to the yang sunlight, you restore harmony and balance to your system. It is also very invigorating and stimulating for your sexual energy, increasing turn on and pleasure potential.

The practice of yoni sunning has been shown to boost the immune system and help alleviate yeast. Plus, your yoni lips (labia) will absolutely adore the warmth and infusion of vitamin D.

In the 1930s, before antibiotics, sunlight therapy (heliotherapy) was favored by the medical community, proven to be the most successful treatment for infectious diseases.  The sun’s rays are deeply healing as this practice thaws out frozen aspects in your yoni, while you surrender to the penetration of the Light.

Infuse the golden glow of life-force vitality into your whole being, from the bottom – up. 

I love to go nude in my backyard and bare my bottom to the sun for 10-15 minutes (gauge your time depending on how much sun exposure you are used to). I always feel a burst of Shakti (Divine Feminine life-force energy), inspiration and a flow of any stagnation. If you are in a cold winter zone, turn up the heat and catch the rays through a clear glass window. 

Yoni Sunning Guide

  • Lay on your back with your knees bent, soles of feet kissing the earth and knees open wide.
  • Place your hands comfortably on your belly outlining your pelvic bowl. 
  • On your inhale, imagine through your yoni lips (labia) sipping in the energy of love, light and gratitude from the sun’s rays. 
  • On your exhale, release to the earth any tension, cords, patterns or imbalances. 
  • Stay here for 3-5 minutes, deepening and increasing capacity of your rhythmic breath.
  • When ready to spice it up – continue with the previous breath, however at the top of your inhale, contract your PC muscles (kegel or mula bandha). Pause with your breath and externally massage the sun’s healing rays into your belly.
  • Big open mouth exhale to release and soften. 
  • During the pause, really feel the sun’s golden rays penetrating you and pouring a healing elixir into your reproductive bowl, as you use your hands to circulate this energy from the outside.
  • Repeat and stay with it for 5 -11 minutes. 
  • Remember to have fun and be gentle with yourself.
  • If after 1 minute you feel emotional or over-stimulated then pause here. You can always return again when you are ready. The point is to allow and surrender into receiving, not to override your systems needs.
  • Leave plenty of space for self-reflection, journaling and integration. 

You can trust this ancient relationship between the sun and your body, both birthed from the heart of a star.
