Period sex is one of the biggest taboo topics in our western society. However, according to the Ancient Tantric Teachings, it’s one of the most mystical and magical practices. The tantric are know masters of the bridges between worlds, the underworld and the world in which we live in.
The underworld, sometimes referred to as the shadow world, may register as a dangerous place to dive into blindly especially without a guide or a roadmap. It can turn into a seemingly never ending journey with no sense of time or space. You will find this ‘black abyss’ absolutely terrifying or compellingly thrilling.
Think moth to the flame, you know you are moving towards your inhalation and liberation at the same time.
The exciting thing is, you can journey down the rabbit hole, uncover some treasures and return to beautify your life. Every-time you dip into the underworld, it will reveal something to you. This revelation is the sacred gift you only get by surrendering completely into the unknown.
Ok, back to the topic at hand – period sex.
Firstly, your period is NOT dirty, toxic or in any way a carrier of a deadly infectious disease. Period sex is not gross, smelly, or anything to be ashamed of wanting. It’s more likely your partner will be into it or open to discussing it then totally turned off.
Every month, your uterus sheds the life giving nutrients that were created to build a home for a potential baby. When no baby is planted on your uterine wall, the body gives a signal to the brain to release a cocktail of hormones that will cause the shedding of this home, or uterine lining.
Period Sex is 100% a personal choice and up to you and your partner how much, or little, you feel to experiment. You can always begin by dabbling in period play and keep an open dialogue with your partner, going further when you are both ready.
Consent is sexy and a key component in fore-play!
The juicy benefits + how to’s of Period Sex:
A lot of the hate mail around period sex is the anticipation of the mess. So nix the anxiety and create a mess friendly zone. Bring lots of dark towels or a special blanket used just for period play to bed with you. Don’t have anything in the field that is not stain-friendly. Neurotic thoughts of staining sheets is so not a turn-on. Hydrogen peroxide will be your BFF for period sex, put directly on any spots, immediately wash and watch the stains disappear. My other fav zone is to get steamy in the shower or tub.
The vaginal canal is porous and engorged while on your period, meaning more sensitivity and heightened sensation. Try slowing down and savoring the subtleties.
If lubrication is a thing you tend to count on from the outside, here is your chance to feel your vagina wet and ready. Your period is a natural super lubricator that keeps everyone well satisfied!
When the body is flooded with oxytocin, or the love hormone, it acts as a barrier between your brain and the sensation of pain. Your body can’t experience both pleasure and pain at the same time, so it chooses the dominant feeling. I don’t know about you, but I would order up a main course of pleasure over pain any day!
When you orgasm, your uterus has a slight bounce as it contracts and releases waves of pleasure. This bouncing and contracting action will increase circulation in your uterus and support blood flowing out, which may lead to a shorter period (worked for me).
Your period time is when you are the most open, both physically and psychically. By setting intentions and talking about your visions, you are pumping vital life force into your dreams. When you & your partner come together (pun intended), it is the most powerful force on the planet and like a rocket booster for your prayers.
The ph balance of your vaginal canal on your period is too acidic for sperm to survive, which kills them before they reach your cervix. When this happens, the chances of implantation (pregnancy) is extremely low.
This is based on a 27-34 day cycle, however as you get closer to the end of your cycle, it can get risky, so please play protected. Your period is not a form of birth control, it’s typically good for a couple days of infertility based on Fertility Awareness Method.
Remember, follow the cues of your body and your partner, trust your breath and overall, make it experimental and playful.
If any point if feels like too much, stop, breathe and communicate your needs.
Tell me, have you experimented with period sex?
from my grateful heart to yours,
